ES Windows Impact Garage Doors: The Tampa Owner’s Guide

We stock and install ES Windows impact-rated garage doors and replacement parts across Tampa, with most full door installations running between $2,800 and $5,400 depending on size, track hardware, and opener integration. If your ES Windows door has a snapped cable, blown spring cartridge, or a panel that won’t track after a storm, we can usually get a technician out within 24 to 48 hours with the part on the truck. Most Tampa owners discover a problem the hard way: the door hangs crooked one morning, grinds when it opens, or refuses to budge after salt air and humidity have done their work on the rollers and hinges.

We are an independent service provider. Winslow Windows & Doors installs and services ES Windows products, but we are not affiliated with the ES Windows brand itself. That independence means we tell you honestly when an OEM part is worth the money and when a quality equivalent makes more sense for a 12-year-old door.

Which ES Windows Models This Applies To

ES Windows builds impact garage doors under a few distinct lines, and the parts do not always swap cleanly between them. The two we service most often in Tampa are the ES Impact Series (aluminum-frame door with reinforced glazing panels) and the ES Windstorm Series (heavier steel-core construction for high-exposure sites). Both are Florida Building Code approved for the high-velocity hurricane zone, but their track profiles, spring cartridges, and end hinges are sized differently.

Here is the compatibility gotcha we see weekly: a Windstorm Series bottom roller bracket will not fit an Impact Series track, even if the roller diameter is identical. The bracket offset is different by about 3/16 inch. If you can not find the model label (it is usually on the inside edge of the top section, near the right hinge), measure the track’s vertical leg. Impact Series tracks run about 2 inches deep; Windstorm Series tracks are closer to 3 inches. That single measurement tells us which family of parts to pull from the truck before we even drive out.

OEM versus aftermarket: For glass panels and the impact-rated frame sections themselves, we recommend ES Windows OEM parts, no question. The glazing is cut and laminated to the frame’s exact tolerances, and a mismatched aftermarket panel voids the door’s wind-load rating. For wear items (rollers, cables, hinge sleeves, nylon bushings), quality aftermarket equivalents from brands like PGT and CGI are manufactured to the same specs and typically cost 20 to 30 percent less. We keep both on hand, and we will tell you which one we would put on our own garage.

Signs Your ES Windows Impact Garage Door Is Failing

  • Door hangs crooked or one side drags against the track. This is almost always a broken torsion spring or a stretched cable. When one spring lets go, the full weight shifts to the other side, and the door pulls unevenly. Continuing to operate it chews up the track and the end bearing plates.
  • Loud pop followed by the door refusing to open more than a few inches. That pop is the sound of a spring cartridge letting go, which is common on ES Windows doors around the 8 to 10 year mark in Tampa’s humid, salt-tinged air. The opener can not lift a door whose counterweight just failed, and trying it usually burns out the motor.
  • Grinding or squealing when the door moves. Worn rollers with flat spots or disintegrated ball bearings are the usual culprit. Seaside neighborhoods like Davis Islands and Bayshore see this accelerated by salt spray. Ignoring it scores the track surface, and then you are replacing tracks too.
  • Visible rust on cables or a frayed strand at the drum. Galvanized steel cables in a Tampa garage get exposed to condensation all summer. Once you see rust bloom or a single broken strand, the cable is living on borrowed time and can snap without warning under full tension.
  • Drafts, light, or water seeping past the bottom panel after a storm. The bottom seal and the panel weatherstripping compress over time, and an impact door that has taken a few hard debris hits can also develop a slight bow. Both are fixable, but only before water parks itself in your drywall and threshold.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here is what Tampa homeowners should expect to pay, installed, for common ES Windows impact garage door work:

Part/Service Typical Installed Range
Full ES Windows impact garage door (single, 8×7) $2,800 - $4,200
Full ES Windows impact garage door (double, 16×7) $3,800 - $5,400
Extension spring replacement (pair) $180 - $320
Torsion spring cartridge replacement (one) $220 - $360
Cable replacement (both sides) $150 - $250
Roller set replacement (nylon, all rollers) $140 - $220
Bottom seal and weatherstripping $90 - $160

The range depends on door width, track condition, and whether your opener needs a new lift arm or bracket to match the new door. Every quote is parts plus labor, itemized, with no buried line items. We email you the line-item quote before any work starts, and the number on that sheet is the number you pay. No change orders, no “we found more while we were in there” unless you approve it in writing first. Every ES Windows door we install carries our workmanship warranty, and we stand behind every part we stock, OEM or aftermarket.

DIY or Call Us?

Let us be straight about the dangerous part first. Torsion springs, extension springs, and the cables under tension on any garage door can kill you if they let go while you are working on them. ES Windows impact doors are heavier than standard doors because of the reinforced glazing and steel-core construction, which means the springs carry more stored energy. We have seen what a snapped cable does to a ladder, a workbench, and a hand that got in the way. Leave springs and cables to a trained technician with the right winding bars and the right respect for the tension.

What you can safely check yourself: look at the rollers for flat spots, run your hand along the bottom seal to feel for cracks, and watch the door as it opens and closes to note which side lags. Those observations help us diagnose faster, and they cost you nothing. Our technicians are background-checked, arrive in uniform, and will show you their ID before they step through your gate. If you are not sure whether the problem needs a repair or a full replacement, call us at (386) 559-6999 and describe what you are seeing. Ed Winslow grew up learning this trade and has spent the better part of two decades measuring, installing, and standing behind doors across the Tampa Bay area. My name is on the door - literally. We will tell you honestly what needs doing, and if it is a simple adjustment, we will say so and only charge you for the trip inside our home county, which is waived anyway.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."

MMaximilian Vasquez
★★★★★

"A tile roof repair and new windows from the same company meant one crew, one permit runner, and nobody blaming the other trade. Ed checked the roof work himself before the tarp came off."

HHenrietta Pemberton
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."
